Robbie tops live solo artist poll

Robbie Williams has beaten Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix and David
Bowie to be named the best live solo artist.
The nationwide
survey of 5,000 people saw the former Take That star trump music
icons including Madonna, Michael Jackson and Bob Dylan.
U2 were named best
live band, ahead of Queen and Oasis, in a poll commissioned by
Carling to celebrate the UK's live music scene.
"The future of rock
and roll certainly looks in safe hands," a spokesman said.

Williams, 31, took first
place in the solo artist poll ahead of David Bowie and Morrissey. Elvis
Presley and Elton John rounded out the top five.

Madonna was the only female
performer in the top ten, at number eight.
British bands dominated the
best live band top 10, with Queen, Oasis, the Rolling Stones and
Radiohead trailing leading Irish rockers U2.
The list also included The
Who, Faithless and Coldplay.
"It's great to see that
current bands like Oasis can sit comfortably alongside rock greats like
The Who and Rolling Stones," said Carling's Martin Coyle.
Oasis also fared well in
the best album poll, with Definitely Maybe in third place, behind the
eponymous Stone Roses album and Nirvana's Nevermind.
Nirvana's Smells Like Teen
Spirit was the best single of all time, followed by John Lennon's
Imagine and Joy Division's Love will Tear Us Apart.
